Engineers play an important role in the safety aspects of many components in our lives such as cars, roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, and even electrical appliances. Any entity that has some mechanical movements or components will require the expertise of a mechanical engineer to determine its functionality and safety factors.

A mechanical engineer usually undergoes 3-4 years of academic studies to pass out as a qualified graduate of mechanical engineering. Some mechanical engineering degrees require some practical experience or industrial certification. A mechanical engineer will deal with the mechanics of the entity and must be multi-skilled in hydraulics, pneumatic and fabrication designs and operation.

A qualified mechanical engineer needs to have sound knowledge about machines and their mechanics for good functioning. A mechanical engineer must be trained in PLCs, DC drives and inverters to be an asset to the company. He needs to be competent in maintaining the on site equipment in factories and production environments assisting his superiors. He may need to travel to the site for big projects while smaller projects send in the mechanical components of the appliance.

He may be given the responsible of ensuring the safety of the equipment by testing the tools and equipment regularly and reporting their status to his superiors.
