Nurses are very essential in our healthcare system. There are Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). These nurses undergo many hours of formal training to be equipped with the relevant medical knowledge and skills to assist the doctor or ease the patient’s sickness.
A LPN cares for sick or injured people including those who are on convalescence or disable. A LPN operates under the direction of doctors and RN. They provide the basic bedside care for the patient as RN may be very busy with medical procedures.
LPNs need to know the basic medical care such as measure and record patients’ vital signs, prepare and give injections, monitor catheters and dress wounds. They do their best to help the patients be comfortable by assisting with bathing, eating, dressing and the movements of patients. LPNs need to be knowledgeable in medical knowledge, tests and medical equipment to use these wisely and effectively.
LPNs are responsible to monitor the patients’ health progress as well as their reactions to treatments and medications. They need to be meticulous in keeping good records of the patients from basic personal information to health information. LPNs are found in nursing homes and hospices.
